This one was recommended to me by Lenny after my post yesterday on Operation Vengeance .
I had never seen a movie with Cagney in his later years (he was 61 when made this one) but I gotta tell you, the swagger and that iconic voice were still the same, if not a bit more reserved and mature as he was playing Admiral “Bull” Halsey.
It did not escape me that this movie was released a year after Halsey’s death in 1959, and I think the Director and crew did a great job of honoring Halsey’s memory and all those that served under him.
Halsey was a no-nonsense leader, cut from the toughest cloth America could provide. Few Admirals could have performed like he did with the massive responsibility thrown on him after having to replace his best firend, Vice-Admiral Ghormley, Commander of the South Pacific.
