IMHO, The armed civilian can find about a dozen more important things to drill on than fighting in and around vehicles, but this article is different in that it applies some very practical (versus couch Rambo) advice if you do find yourself in this Ass-Puckering Level 1 situation.

Putting something, ANYTHING, between you and a bullet is a good move. If it stops or even marginally disrupts the flight path and overall integrity of the bullet, that’s a win.
