Martinsville woman stuck 8 hours in freezing temperatures after crash
Here is a painful lesson from my neck of the woods we can all learn from.
First Thing’s First: This woman should have never been out on the road in these conditions.
The weather conditions here in my part of Texas (Temps in the teens, sleet, ice on the roads, etc.) were announced well in advance for anybody with half a brain could make reasonable preparations.
So she was driving too fast, hit some black ice, crashed and slid off the road around 10 p.m. in the evening and was not rescued by EMS/Police until almost 6 a.m. the next morning after a good samaritan heard her yelling and called for help. Not sure why she did not have a cell phone on her but there you have it.
So she spent 8 hours seriously injured and freezing her ass off.
Lessons Learned:
-
Nobody is Coming to Save You and If They Do, it will be a While!
-
Prepare for Bad Weather and Emergencies so you do not have to get out on the roads for supplies.
-
Always Communicate with Friends/Family Before you go out in bad weather or make any kind of road trip.
-
If you do go out in bad weather, dress warm with layers.
-
Have a Hands Free Cell Phone Available to you while driving.
