In January I reviewed for you one of Kinetic Concealments Mini-Green Dot Laser Units. Well, this month Josh sent me one of their Outstanding Hybrid Neoprene Backed Leather/Kydex Holsters to review for you.
Besides their excellent reputation for making quality kit, one of the main things that attracted me to KC was their straight forward mentality as reflected in the ad above. “The Choice of the Silent Protector” reflects what I think, is also the mentality of the Civilian Operator. Quite simply, the average, everyday hard working Joe who wants to take care of and protect his family.
The holster I will be reviewing today is the IWB Combo Kit fitted for my Glock 21SF. The Combo Kit is the best of both worlds; a Kydex IWB Holster with a pre-punched matching OWB backing. The shell is easily removable and can be worn on either holster backing. This holster is ideal for the person who want a CCW rig with the the option of an OWB rig for the range or Open Carry.
The holster and belt clips are fully adjustable. The holster can be adjusted for cant by moving to any of the pre-drilled holes. The process to adjust it and to switch out the OWB backing is very simple. The holster uses Chicago Screws, which is one of the absolute best ways to adjust and fix any holster or knife sheath in the field. I first used these on a Blackhawk sheath system many years back and was really impressed. All you need is a phillips head screwdriver, not a specific allen wrench to do all the work, really easy and practical.
The position of the holster shown in the below pictures is right around a 3 o’clock to 3 thirty strong side. It should be noted that according to Josh at Kinetic, the holster was originally designed for a “Small-of-the-back” carry position. Since time was in short supply, I could only show the strong side position. This just goes to show how flexible the holster really is as far as carry positions.
The holster held the gun really tight to the body avoiding “printing”. The cant was perfect for this position on the strong side, but as I noted, the cant is fully adjustable. The bulk was minimal, which is really important in a kydex rig. The one thing I would improve on is installing a sweat band on the top and the bottom where the rig touches skin. One thing is for sure: If a rig becomes uncomfortable or starts “rubbing” it will end up at the back of the closet!
Overall, the pro’s outweigh the cons and what you get for the price is not bad. With a few tweeks, this holster would be a fine addition to the CO who wear his piece on the Strong Side/Small-of-the back Position. Kinetic Concealment is an up-and-coming company who seems to listen to their customers and try their best to deliver on what they want. That is good (and rare) thing these days! To prove that point, the debut for KC’s new Appendix (AIWB) rig is right around the corner, so hopefully we will be able to review that for you very soon!
