This is a not a movie but a 8 part mini-series that appeared on Sundance Channel last year. It is about a East German kid whose mother needs a organ transplant that is only available in the West and the East German Stasi blackmail him into spying for them and the KGB in order to save his mother. They insert him into an aide-de-camp position to a West German Army General and the fun begins.

I will tell you up front the show is in German and sub-titled in English, which I think personally adds to the authenticity and charm of a Cold War Spy Series. I mean when you think of the hey day of the Cold War you think of East and West Berlin, right?

All in all, Anybody that likes spy stories and remembers the eighties will like this series. It goes to great lengths to get all the details right: The Music, the Clothes, the Commercials, everything. Not to mention the writing and acting is superb, with a high degree of detail paid to authenticity. For Example, in Episode 2, during a NATO and West German Military Meeting, the name “Able Archer” is mentioned, which, if you keep up with Cold War History you will know was a famous European NATO military exercise that took place in 1983.
