Netflix Pix: Point and Shoot

Posted on 24 June 2015 by The Tactical Hermit

PS

For those of you out there that don’t mind homemade movies, you might like this quirky, offbeat documentary of Matthew Van Dyke, an American College Graduate who suffers with OCD who sets out to see the world and really experience life first hand.

(WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!)

He buys a Video Camera, a Motorcycle and a few knives and heads off for North Africa and the Middle East. Along the way he:  Breaks his collarbone in a bike wreck in Tunisia,  gets bit by a pack of wild dogs, embeds with an Army unit in Iraq as a War Correspondent for the Baltimore Sun, Learns to fire a M240B Machine Gun, Drives through Iran to Afghanistan (without being jailed as a spy) Once in Kabul he buys a sawed off shotgun for self-defense and then later gets punched by a surly policeman. Ultimately he ends up meeting this hippie Libyan guy who tells him he should go to Libya, which he does.Fast forward and he ends up being an active participant in the Libyan Revolution in 2012 and eventually spends some time in a Libyan Prison.

For the CO, I think this is a valuable show to watch because it shows the real life challenges of being an insurgent/freedom fighter and the challenges one faces when NOBODY has any experience with firearms or tactics. Laughably, because of being embedded with the Army in Iraq and shooting the M240, Van Dyke was the only one of the militia group who had EVER fired a weapon before! Anther funny scene is watching this militia take a junker of a truck, make a few spot welds and mount a fully functional DsHk Soviet Machine Gun in the Back…kind of Mad Max-ish.

Overall, a good movie to watch if only for the reason of getting an unbiased and unfiltered look at War and what happens when Desperate people get fed up with tyranny.

Stay Alert, Stay Armed and Stay Dangerous!
