Movement. You need it to survive in a gunfight. And not just in the conventional way you may think. Logic dictates Things that move are that much harder to hit than things that are stationary. Consider a {security} detail stationed in a hostile country/environment. When they are anywhere exposed in an area that may present a sniper with a lucky shot, watch the movements of the detail and the movements of their principles…it is constant, almost a pacing, never standing in one place too long. Moving, Scanning…sector by sector. Think “Tiger in a cage”.. If the principle lags, they are there to goad or push them along, whatever it takes, point is: keep them moving, dont stop moving until they are behind solid cover and are safe, if not for a moment, at least long enough to catch your breath.
One Could say Movement is Life, like the Shark, Without movement, life ceases, in a violent world the same could be said. The necessity of constant movement also speaks to our need to never stop being AWARE, to constantly assess, to constantly observe, constantly scan… and in the same moment be ready to ACT, without hesitation or pause. Movement of the body without movement of the mind is a useless endeavour. Stay Engaged, Stay Focused. The momentum and speed of your pace should be with purpose: is it weird that as I walk I am thinking of a set of crosshairs on me bouncing with my steps? The shooter, somewhere out there, laid prone, 600 meters out, simultaneously attempting to coordinate their respiratory pause and the moment I slow my walk to a crawl and in an instant, even before the cordite hits the shooters nostrils, I am Dead.
Its a myth you can always see the glint of a snipers scope..that is hollywood bullshit; unless of course you are dealing with a noob, or a kid who got in a hurry and forgot to flip down his killflash; he simply saw an opportunity and jumped at it before prepping his gear…mostly the younger, inexperienced snipers made this mistake, but they only got to make it once. Its fieldcraft 101 really…before they started issuing kill-flashes on a large scale, we used electrical tape to cover our scopes and binocs, because it was black, but duct tape works too and is often more plentiful around base. Take two pieces, one over the top of the scope face and one over the bottom, leave enough of a slit where light can pass..all you need is a pin hole to have full vision through the scope and bam, you got a killflash.
Had a dream I was all alone in an orchard without any ammo last night. I could hear the hadjis yelling all around me, but all I had was a empty M4. When I saw the first one I drew down on him and when I heard the CLICK I woke up in a cold sweat. It was the loudest noise I ever heard. My grandma who was 3/4 Cherokee indian used to tell me to always listen to my dreams. From that point on, instead of taking extra MRE’s, I took extra mags. I NEVER ran out of mags after that.
Stay Alert, Stay Armed and Stay Dangerous.
