A CO’s Guide to Thinking with your Big Head and not the Little One
You know history is replete with sad, cautionary tales of woe involving men and women and the often tragically violent encounters that ensue after sometimes a simple mis-understanding of the heart or other times outright adultery being caught in the physical act. It was said in the Old West that over half of all the recorded gunfight’s that took place were over a man or a woman. Fast forward to present day and most LE agencies will tell you that the most dangerous calls they respond to are not the Bank Robberies or the Drug Bust, but the “Domestic Disturbance” calls. In fact, according to Police Chief Magazine, nationwide, one out of every 3 Domestic Disturbance Calls results in a LEO being seriously injured. Since 1996, 106 officers have been slain in the line of duty while responding to Domestic Service Calls nationwide.
Why is this? The answer is simple…EMOTIONS run high when it comes to issues of the heart. Even the Justice system recognizes this and gives a person some leeway in regards to punishment, calling it “Crimes of Passion”.
So how does the CO avoid such “drama”? Typically following the “tried and true” prevention measures discussed time and time again on this blog will keep you out of hot water:
- Staying Away from Places you Do Not Belong (Like your Friends Wife’s Bedroom)
- Staying Away from People you do not Belong With (Like your Friend’s Wife)
- Avoiding Situations that even suggest “impropriety” (Being seen in a Public Place with just you and your Friend’s Wife, Being Home Alone with another person beside your husband or your wife).
Recent News Headlines show the deadly consequences of our last bullet point. Although all the facts are not in, it is easy to draw the conclusion that a jealous husband is nothing to trifle with; even if the situation was benign, some guys just don’t play! To be Safe, AVOID even the mere appearance of impropriety and ALWAYS respect Martial Boundaries.
Listen guys, I do not live my life like a monk and I don’t go around telling people how to live their lives, but that being said, in order for the Civilian Operator to live peaceably with his fellow-man, means that he must adhere to somewhat of a decent, noble & honorable lifestyle. I firmly believe the words HONOR & LOYALTY still have meaning in this day and age, especially when the leadership of this Country is lacking severely in Moral Character and Courage!
In closing, think with the head on your shoulders & not the one between your legs, Mow your own lawn and Drink from your own cistern!
Stay Dangerous!
