Any Martial Citizen worth his salt should own a book or two on the Irish Struggle for Independence against the British Empire, also know as “The Troubles”.
When it comes to this topic and Guerilla Warfare as a whole, few movies are as historically accurate and as well made as The Wind that Shakes the Barley. It stars Cillian Murphy of Peaky Blinders fame and is directed by Ken Loach.
The story is exemplary in showing the hardships and terror the common Irish citizen suffered under the Black and Tan’s and how the early IRA trained and operated. The movie also goes into detail about the Irish Civil War that came about after the Anglo-Irish Peace Treaty with Great Britain was signed in 1921.
