Going out to eat can be considered a luxury, but one East Texas woman opened up a local restaurant where money is never a barrier if you’re looking for a meal.
Eva’s Tea Room in Garrison is a pay-what-you-can restaurant. Eva Dewitt, the owner of the restaurant, encourages anyone to come.
“Everybody’s welcome. I don’t care about their money, I don’t care if you’re rich or poor, I don’t care if you don’t have a penny,” Dewitt said.
She was inspired to open her restaurant after being called to serve the community by God, and she said she immediately accepted.
“He said, ‘I don’t want you to charge for the food,’ and I thought, ‘Okay, I can do that too,’” Dewitt explained.
