Today, on 22nd of June, Croatia is celebrating the Day of Antifascist fight. It is a day that the Croatian Government is very proud of. The day celebrates the formation of the first Croatian antifascist detachment in forest of Brezovica near Sisak, marking the beginning of Croatian fight against Fascism.
Problem is, that day is a lie, and it is a lie on multiple levels. It is in fact a lie that reveals a hidden totalitarian – dare say, fascist – nature of the people promoting antifascism as a value. These are the people who, while congratulating themselves on the open mindedness and tolerance, would forbid any and all opinions different from their own. This type of totalitarianism under the name of “political correctness” is unfortunately very common today, and control of language is one of its key tenets. Today, antifascism has nothing to do with opposition to fascism – much less totalitarianism in general – and everything to do with political control. To be able to belittle and steal from people with clear conscience, the only thing necessary is to reduce them to something less than human. And while fascists at least went to the trouble of developing racial theories, antifascists have a much simpler solution to the problem – labelling their subhumans-to-be as “fascists”. Anyone opposed to Marxist, progressive ideas is labelled a “conservative”, “reactionary”, “oriented towards the past”, “backwards” and “primitive”. Nevermind the fact that none of these labels describe values or phenomena that are evil or inherently bad or inferior, in the progressive mind, anyone wearing such a label is little better than an animal and is, at best, problematic and dangerous.
Franjo Tudjman himself was a leftist, a Communist, and this past never left him. Between this and having to secure loyalty of at least a portion of the old Communist establishment to create a new independent Croatia, Tudjman declared “antifascism” to be one of key values of the new Croatia. But this antifascism implies Communism, an ideology that is closer to Fascism than to any other ideology in history, be it democracy, liberalism, monarchism or something else.
