Eleven farm attacks in South Africa resulted in four deaths in May 2024.
76-year-old Christo Morrison and his 73-year-old wife Christa were killed during a farm attack near Glen in Free State province.
Christo’s body was found about 900 feet from the farmhouse with severe wounds to his upper body, while Christa’s body was discovered in a septic tank.
A concerned neighbor contacted the police when he couldn’t reach the couple on their cell phones, police said.
Upon arrival at the farm, police found the house doors open, covered in blood, and ransacked.
Tools and electronic equipment were stolen from the house, and the killers fled in the couple’s Toyota Land Cruiser, which was later found burnt out in the town of Winnie Mandela, formerly known as Brandfort.
The body of 69-year-old Russell Lexton Cromhout was found two weeks after he was reported missing. He was discovered in a sugarcane field close to where he lived.
Cromhout’s farmhouse had been ransacked prompting his family to search for the missing man frantically.
The suspects were found in possession of items stolen from Cromhout’s home. They were charged with murder, housebreaking and theft, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of the suspected stolen property.
