County-Comm Summer Gear Review

Posted on 9 August 2021 by The Tactical Hermit

As many of you know I have been a huge fan of County-Comm for a long time now. Besides offering unique, robust, dependable, practical and affordable prepping and survival gear, they are also just a great bunch of people to do business with.

Today I have a few items I wanted to show you guys that I really think would be a great addition to any Prepper or Survival Bag.

RA-18650 Right Angle Flood Flashlight by Maratac

It’s no secret I am a huge fan of Maratac flashlights. IMHO they are some of the most dependable, practical and affordable tactical/survival lights on the market. So when I saw this Right Angle Flood Rechargeable 1,075 lumen flashlight I jumped! Before I go any further I will tell you the rechargeable battery you need for optimum performance of this light is NOT included (Samsung 30Q 18650) but they are very afforable and easy to find.

The good folks at County-Comm also included a fully adjustable headband with tracer markers to make this right angle flood flashlight even more utilitarian!

Specs:

  • Length: 4.35″

  • Diameter: 1.1″ Head / 1″ Body

  • Weight: 2.15 Ounces – Without Battery

  • Body is Aircraft Grade Aluminium

  • The reflector is aluminum alloy / Type III Anodized – Frost sides for flood

  • The lens features a DualAR (Anti-Reflective) Coating – Tempered Window.

  • IPX68 Rated

  • Its proprietary circuit design features reverse polarity protection and runs off of one 18650 battery or 2 CR123 Batteries, which provides 4 levels of brightness ( Low / Medium / High ) – LUNAR Low with 2 second press from off position

  • Includes lanyard loophole for easy carry

  • Includes spare O-rings

  • Includes charging cable

  • Using A Single High Quality 18650 battery we got the following results:

    • Low, 250 lumen output for upto 7 Hours

    • Medium, 650 lumen output for upto 3.5 Hours

    • Turbo, 1075 Lumen output for upto 2.5 Hours

    • Lunar Low Mode, 1 Lumen output for up to 3 weeks

This light is a BEAST!

Small, compact and lightweight it gives you Flood Light Power in the palm of your hand. I’m serious about this one guys. You need this in your kit.

Camo Mini Water Filtration System

I am always on the lookout for a well made portable water filtration system and when I saw this one made by Sawyer I had to give it a try. Now while this is a “Mini” water filtration that weights only 2 ounces and can fit in the palm of your hand it can still filter up to 100,000 gallons of clean, drinkable water!

According to Sawyer, The MINI can be cleaned and reused almost indefinitely with no expensive cartridges to replace… ever. Sawyer recommends backwashing and sanitizing the filter after every outing for optimized use.

Besides it’s size, the greatest thing this little filter has got going for it is it’s versatility.

Filter into a water bottle to enjoy yourself or share with others.

Sip from a container (or right from the water source) with the included straw.

Screw the Mini onto water or soda bottles with a standard threaded top.

Attach inline to a hydration pack (sold separately) — hose connectors are built into the filter.

Deep Cover Clip Pouch By Maratac – Rev 3

I am always on the lookout for a good hideout wallet and this one by Maratac fits the bill perfect. For anybody that travels/jogs/rucks or just does not like conventional wallets, you know the need for being able to keep your “Tier 1” valuables, ie, money and ID somewhere OTHER than a front or back pocket. This durable fire engine stitched zippered pouch is equipped with a very sturdy clip enabling you to attach this on the INSIDE of your waistband and just like your CCW, it’s out of sight and out of mind!

SERE Compass

In the digital age of the GPS the humble analog compass has unfortunately taken a backseat in most people’s BUG out and Survival bags. I will tell you flat out I think that is a HUGE mistake. This should be a REQUIRED piece of kit in every bag and vehicle you own! There is nothing easier to operate and at this price and size to keep virtually anywhere!

Standard issue in most USAF and USN aircrew survival kits, it is made out of machined brass with luminescent hands (glows in the dark) it’s a DRY instrument type that will not freeze or develop bubbles.

Keep It Simple and Don’t get Lost!

Lock Manipulation Complete Training Kit – Gen 2

One credo that I firmly believe in for success in Life: ALWAYS BE LEARNING A NEW PRACTICAL SKILL.

So when I saw this nifty lock picking training kit I could not pass it up because who knows, someday in the near future I may need to “manipulate” a lock for some reason or another! It’s also a really fun game for the family as well!

This kit comes with everything for the entry level locksmith trainee: A quality set of picks and rakes in a really nice carry pouch and a see-thru training padlock with keys.
