Although I did not always agree with his politics and policies, I greatly admired and appreciated Senator McCain’s service to our country as a Naval Aviator (A-4 Skyhawk pilot) and the hardships he endured as POW in Vietnam at the Hanoi Hilton.
Unlike that fake John Kerry who joined the spineless hippies in bad mouthing this country when he returned from Vietnam, Senator McCain came back from Vietnam and stood up for his country.
That is Honor, That is Integrity and that HAS to be admired in an age where it seems folks are afraid to stand for anything that might “offend” somebody.
If you have not seen it, recommend the HBO Documentary on Senator McCain’s life entitled For Whom the Bell Tolls. It is a wonderful chronology of a man who dedicated his entire life to his Country.
On a side note, as a military historian, I also recommend the family biography Faith of my Fathers about McCain’s father and grandfather, who were both Four Star Admirals that commanded Carrier Groups and Task Forces in World War Two and Vietnam.
Me and my family’s condolences and prayers go out to the McCain family during their time of grief.
