I have always liked Craig Douglas and Shivworks…some of the first training DVD’s I got were from him. I still regard his Fighting Handgun DVD right up there with Kelly McCann’s Combative Pistol DVD. The guy is solid, has BTDT and knows his stuff.
What I liked about this short lesson is it clarifies the “Reactionary Gap” ideal. How many times have we heard people say “Never let anybody get within 21 feet of you at ANY time!” Well, for all of us that live in the real world, we know that to be some unrealistic armchair ninja BS; mainly because it is terribly unrealistic to think we can go about our daily lives and never let anybody get within 7 yards (21 feet) of our position! What IS realistic is training how to manage people that get close enough to harm us; What Craig calls “Direct Encroachment.” For those of you that have not seen it, I highly recommend his PUC DVD and Class. It is one of the most street practical classes around.
