Quit Worrying and Start Training!

I have been literally assaulted on all sides lately by folks  asking me to give them advice on how best to “prepare” for the current crisis we are all facing in this country right now. From Ebola to EV-D68 to ISIS coming across our borders, to our 1st and 2nd Amendment Rights being trampled on by a Socialist Govt, there is no lack of things for the CO to be concerned about, that is for sure.

But being concerned and aware is a different from letting outright ANXIETY rule the day, which is what most civilians are doing right now.

First of all, we need to understand that to be a CO means to have a lifestyle of preparation and training, not a lifestyle of worry, fear mongering and being a part of spreading baseless gossip. If you have been paying attention these last few years, you know that I have always underscored the extreme IMPORTANCE of being PREPARED, not just in gear, supplies and Weapons (aka  HARDWARE), but in mentality, planning and mindset (aka  SOFTWARE). Part of that software is understanding how fear and panic is just as contagious as any virus.

As I have said before, WE cannot control what other people do, only what WE do. So what is the point in worrying about something we CANNOT change? Short answer:  We can’t. It serves no purpose, and is a waste of your time and resources..and right now, time and resources are something you should be maximizing, not wasting!

So how do I maximize my time and resources? TRAIN of course! Put all that “nervous energy” to use and either hit the range or the mats. Work on the skills you think you may need if things go all the way south in the next month or so. There is always room for improvement in any area. If you are like me, I have a”Foundation” firearm routine I drew up when ammo prices started getting outrageous, I designed a fast and dirty set of drills for both rifle and pistol that covered the basics and only took 50 rounds and about 25 minutes to do. From there you can refine what you need work on, etc.

And if you can’t hit the range or mats, play the “What if” game. This is a very simple way to organize your SHTF plan into a practical set of steps. Now don’t be like a friend of mine and take this “game” too far and start obsessing over every little detail! You will nullify the point of the game which is to AVOID worry and instill CONFIDENCE!

So, in closing, the answer, right now anyways, as with a lot of things, lies in MODERATION.

Don’t bury your head in the sand like the Sheeple, but at the same time, don’t start running for the hills and go “TINFOIL HAT KRAY-KRAY” either!

Slow and Steady wins the race.

Stay Alert, Stay Armed and Stay Dangerous!
