Authorities in Olmito, Texas have arrested a U.S. Border Patrol agent accused of working for Mexico’s Gulf Cartel and having played a role in a beheading.

On Friday morning, Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio confirmed to Breitbart Texas the arrest of Joel Luna near Hebronville, Texas.

Jail records obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed that he is being held on 15 separate drug charges and the man is expected to also face capital murder charges for his role in the torture and beheading of an illegal alien from Honduras that was tied to the drug operations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mexican transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) have significantly increased opium production and shifted their operations to expand heroin trafficking in recent years. The TCOs launched a concerted effort to make the illicit drug readily available to Americans as the number of heroin overdose deaths in the U.S. surge, reports the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

America’s southern neighbor was also identified in the DEA report as the primary source of clandestinely-produced fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is an estimated 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine, and 25 to 40 times stronger than heroin.

Fentanyl, which is often added to heroin to increase its effects, has also been linked to hundreds of deaths in the United States in recent years.

Authorities in Roma, Texas from both U.S. and Mexico ended up bumping into each other on the American side of the border while looking for illegal drug smugglers.

Border Patrol agents told Breitbart Texas the “accidental” incursion took place Thursday near a small island in this border city that lies in the middle of the Rio Grande. However, in order for the incursion to have been “accidental” the Mexican police would have to be unaware they were crossing a river onto the island. It is highly unlikely the armed Mexican police officers were unaware of their entry into the United States.

Breitbart Texas had initially confirmed the incursion with Roma Police which had been called to assist during the initial confusion. The U.S. Border Patrol then provided additional information to Breitbart Texas.

On the day of the incursion, shortly after 8 a.m., agents observed eight men carrying bundles of marijuana on an island upriver from this city.
