I am currently reading Steven Pressfield’s novel The Lions Gate, a fictional “hybrid history” of Israel’s Six Day War fought in 1967. The book is outstanding so far and I highly recommend it, as I do any of Pressfield’s stuff, as it is all top-notch.
The other day, I came across a statement that I think has timely relevance for what America is currently facing with ISIS. It was made in 1955 by Moshe Dayan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army. He was speaking to a group of IDF Line Officers about the recent murderous incursions by Arab fedayeen into Israel:
“We could not defend every water pipeline from being blown up and every tree from being uprooted. We could not prevent every murder of a worker in an orchard or a family in their beds. BUT IT WAS WITHIN OUR POWER TO SET SO HIGH A PRICE FOR OUR BLOOD, A PRICE TOO HIGH FOR THE ARAB COMMUNITY, The Arab Army or the Arab Governments to think it worth paying…It was in our POWER to cause the Arab Government to renounce the “policy of strength” toward Israel b y turning it into a demonstration of weakness.”
You might be saying to yourself..wow, that’s a great quote, but how is it relevant to America today? America today faces the same enemy Israel faced 59 years ago. Yes, the names and politics have changed over the centuries, but the agenda of these people has ALWAYS remained the same: KILL the infidel’s, drive Israel into the sea and establish the islamic caliphate, blah, blah, blah.
Lest all of us forget, and it seems many in our government have, this is the same IDEALOGY that:
- Attacked the Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia, killing 19 American serviceman
- Blew up the USS Cole in 2000, killing 17 American sailors
- Hijacked 3 planes and flew them into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and crashed one in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 innocent American civilians on 9/11/01
- The Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have cost America over 6,800 Soldiers, Marines and Airmen.
- Internet be-headings of 2 American journalist.
Now I don’t know about you, but when I read these stats (and these are just the ones that have killed Americans) it PISSES ME OFF.
It reminds me of the REASON all of these scumbags need to take the LONG DIRT NAP.
But sadly, it seems like most Americans, and our Government, have forgotten, or just don’t care anymore.
How about this: When you compare the CURRENT attitude by the obama Administration on how to defeat ISIS and the mentality that Israel had over 59 years ago (typified by Mr. Dayan’s statement above) all to defeat basically the same enemy; which of them seems more aggressive and likely to succeed?
You see Israel from the very beginning of its inception, COULD NOT TOLERATE Terrorism in any form. It could not afford too.
Israeli Reprisal for the blatant acts of Terror and Murder on Civilians throughout the early years of Israel’s creation was seen by Dayan and Ben-Gurion (Israel’s Prime Minister at this time) not as “Revenge” killing, or “Getting Even” but as an absolute Political Tactic within the greater strategy whose object was the SURVIVAL OF THE NATION OF ISRAEL.
So ultimately, when we take all this into consideration, we have to wonder: Is this government more genuinely concerned about the Long Term Survival of the United States or are they just intent on stopping the next big Terrorist plot? There is a big difference in those two mentalities you know. One is Offensive and Active in its response, and the other is Defensive and continually reacting to what the enemy does.
Does this government, like the government of Israel in 1955, have the stalwart attitude that we must “Set so high a price for OUR blood” to make the jihadist think twice before they attack Americans again?
Obviously the Answer to all of these questions is NO. We have a Government who has forgotten the past, forgotten all of those who were murdered in cold blood..and in doing this, dishonored ALL of their memories.
As a veteran and Patriot, this is unacceptable to me.
In closing, I would be amiss not to qualify my remark about how Israel’s 59-year-old mentality was more successful than Americas’ current one in fighting terrorism:
- THEY WON THE SIX DAY WAR WITH NO ASSISTANCE
- THEY STILL EXIST DESPITE BEING SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KILL THEM
Stay Alert, Stay Armed and Stay Dangerous!
