Cameroon: Jihad martyrdom suicide bombers murder 32, wound dozens
“Suicide bombers kill 32, wound dozens in northern Cameroon,” by Josiane Kouagheu, Reuters, January 25, 2016:
DOUALA, Cameroon (Reuters) – Suicide bombers targeting a town in northern Cameroon killed 32 people and wounded 66 on Monday, one of the worst attacks yet in the Central African nation as it struggles to contain violence blamed on Nigeria’s Boko Haram.
State-owned radio and local officials said four explosions struck a busy market and entrances to the town of Bodo, which borders the Islamist insurgency’s strongholds in northeastern Nigeria, at around 10 a.m. (0900 GMT).
A local official, who said the death toll could rise further as a number of those take to hospital were in serious condition, said the attackers had slipped in under the cover of seasonal, dusty Harmattan winds.
“The Harmattan has been blowing for three days. … The vigilance committees weren’t able to see the suicide bombers, who entered the village in the middle of the night,” he said, asking not to be named.
While there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, northern Cameroon has become the scene of increasingly frequent suicide attacks as Boko Haram has stepped up cross-border violence that has also spread into Chad and Niger.
Twelve people were killed in an attack on Jan. 13 at a mosque in the town of Kouyape.
Bodo, separated from Nigeria by only a small border river, was previously targeted at the end of December when two female suicide bombers blew themselves up at the town entrance.
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people and driven more than 2 million people from their homes during its six-year insurgency in one of the world’s poorest regions….
These Jihadist wastes of human skin – all of them, not just this group- keep cropping up like a bad case of Malaria. Africa has been troubled since my earliest memories, but at least back then, Islamic S disturbers weren’t part of the daily fare.
As I have said many times, Africa will soon be completely in the hands of ISIS thru murderous groups like Boko haram and Al Shabaab, (North Africa already is by most accounts with Libya about to fall General Dunford has called for MILITARY ACTION there ASAP) and since Africa is the southern flank and gives access to the “soft underbelly” of Europe as Churchill called it, you can see the next move, which of course is already well underway. I know this is beating my head against a wall saying it, but the complete LACK of any Foreign Policy in Africa for the last 10 years (and yes even Bush ignored most of the OVERT warning signs) has allowed these groups to grow unfettered. Simply using Africa as Drone bases for the last 8 years is ignoring the problem…and saying that Africa must “govern” itself and “mind it’s own yard” is a joke too..just look at the most recent attack on the Kenyan Military base in Somalia..these people have no clue! And Kenya is spposed to be one of or strongest “allies” against terrorism!!?? If Defending Democracy is truly the Goal of the United States, we need to get to work in Africa NOW.
IF we were to involve our military, before one single American became a casualty, I’d stipulate that the U.N. could go shove it; we’re going in to annihilate them with no damned “rules of engagement”. Africa’s land mass is three times over that of the U.S. it could be a logistical nightmare.
If we were fighting a conventional war, I would agree with you, but rooting out boko haram and al shabaab wold be far from Conventional undertaking. Is it a hornets nest? Absolutely and it is not an ideal situation militarily, but unfortunately this is what happens when you don’t knock down a WASP nest early on when it has just been built and there are only 1 or 2 wasp on it..we had our opportunities in Africa to nip these things down but we passed on them..Somalia in 93, etc.
