The Mexican attorney general released more details from the government\u2019s investigation of Sinaloa drug lord Joaqu\u00edn “El Chapo” Guzm\u00e1n’s\u00a0high-profile prison escape<\/a> in July, though she refrained from divulging specifics.<\/p>\n \u201cThe exact amount of how much [El Chapo] spent [to escape] we have not documented totally,\u201d Arely G\u00f3mez Gonz\u00e1lez, Mexico\u2019s attorney general,\u00a0told<\/a> Mexican newspaper Milenio in an interview. \u201cBut we do know that it was a very high amount of money.\u201d<\/p>\n Since Guzm\u00e1n\u2019s escape from a high-security prison in central Mexico in July, through a mile-long tunnel<\/a> from his prison cell to an exit hidden by a partially constructed house, a variety oflurid details<\/a> have emerged.<\/p>\n Though G\u00f3mez Gonz\u00e1lez did not reveal specifics about the costs of the breakout, previousreports indicate<\/a> that some aspects of it cost the notorious kingpin well over $100,000, and it is believed that he paid $3 million<\/a> for a jailbreak in 2001.<\/p>\n In early November, Mexican newspaper Excelsior\u00a0reported<\/a> that the plot of land on which the house was built cost nearly $100,000, while construction of the house itself cost nearly $25,000.<\/p>\n
