At the Association of the <span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span> Army\u2019s annual conference, (<span class=\"caps\">AUSA<\/span>) even the trucks were at least partially robotic. As Training and Doctrine Command\u2019s Maj. Gen. Cedric Wins recently said, robot steering offers \u201cadvantages that would provide additional protection to forces, or relief, or allow other soldiers to do other things. That\u2019s a key technology as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcic.army.mil\/Initiatives\/force-2025-beyond.aspx\">[Force 2025 and Beyond]<\/a> effort.\u201d With that in mind, here are the coolest robots we found rolling the floor at\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">AUSA<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>HDT Global Micro Utility Vehicle<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/tankbot-hdt.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8802\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/tankbot-hdt.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"tankbot-hdt\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The poster boy for \u201cyou\u2019ll shoot your eye out\u201d military technology, the <span class=\"caps\">HDT<\/span> Micro Utility Vehicle is primarily intended as a hauler, capable of carrying 500 pounds (with an additional 500-lb trailer capacity, so 1000 pounds with trailer). Of course, you can also just stick on an <span class=\"caps\">ATK<\/span> minigun and run for cover, but the Army has said that they don\u2019t want guns on ground robots. At least not\u00a0yet.<\/p>\n<p>2.<strong> Aeroviroment Switchblade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/switchblade.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8803\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/switchblade.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"switchblade\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>War is hell, but any day that you can shoot a robot out of what is basically a mortar is a great\u00a0day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"defenseone-instream-ad\" class=\"ad ad-defenseone-instream hidemobile hidetablet\">\u00a0The Switchblade \u2014 sometimes called the <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.defensenews.com\/article\/20111017\/DEFSECT01\/110170303\/U-S-Army-Fly-Kamikaze-Drones\">kamikaze<\/a> drone \u2014 isn\u2019t new. More missile than robot, it can conduct low-level intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance with a tiny camera.
