Here are seven other times when U.S. troops lined up opposite Russian troops:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Russian and Americans shot each other in Korea<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the Korean War, U.S. pilots were officially flying against Chinese and Korean pilots, but\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.historynet.com\/interview-with-harold-e-fischer-korean-war-jet-ace-and-pow.htm\">they knew Soviets were in the mix<\/a>. In 1952, the number of Soviet personnel in Korea had\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rbth.com\/society\/2013\/07\/26\/memoirs_of_a_covert_soviet_pilot_in_the_korean_war_28427.html\">climbed to 26,000 counting both pilots and air defense soldiers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides hid the fact that the Soviets were involved so that neither country was forced into a larger war. American forces didn\u2019t report hearing Russian voices on signal intercepts between Soviet fighters while the Russians put Chinese markings and uniforms on all of their forces.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Russian anti-aircraft experts shot down U.S. planes in Vietnam<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Like in North Korea, Russia wanted to affect the outcome of a war America was in but they didn\u2019t want to accidentally create a new world war.
