US Army<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goarmy.com\/special-forces.html\"><strong> Special Forces<\/strong><\/a> was activated at Fort Bragg in September 1961.<\/p>\n<p>Three weeks to the day later President Kennedy attended a \u201cfirepower demonstration\u201d conducted at Ft. Bragg. Members of 5th Group wore unauthorized headgear; a forest green beret. Kennedy liked it and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jfklibrary.org\/JFK\/JFK-in-History\/Green-Berets.aspx\"><strong>Green Beret<\/strong><\/a> has been the sign of the Quiet Professional ever since.<\/p>\n<p>The American flag was flown in battle for the first time on 3 Sept. 1777 at Cooch\u2019s Bridge and American fighting men have kicked ass all across the globe under that banner ever since\u2026 But not all were active duty military.<\/p>\n<p>There were also men like 19 year old Merchant Marine Cadet Edwin O\u2019Hara.<\/p>\n<p>September 27<sup>th<\/sup> 1941 saw the launch of the first Liberty Ship, SS Patrick Henry. Thirteen sister ships were launched the same day.
