Air Force Releases Pictures of Nuclear Stealth Bomber<\/a><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Officials at the United States Air Force recently released pictures of the B-21 Raider, a nuclear stealth bomber and the first new American bomber aircraft produced in over three decades.<\/h2>\n

The aircraft has started tests at Edwards Air Force Base in California and \u201ccontinues to make progress toward becoming the backbone\u201d of the American bomber fleet, according to a\u00a0press release<\/a>\u00a0from the Air Force.<\/h2>\n

The B-21 was described in the release as \u201clong-range\u201d and \u201chighly survivable,\u201d and will incrementally replace the B-1 and B-2 bombers.<\/h2>\n

\u201cWe are in the flight test program, the flight test program is proceeding well,\u201d Air Force Assistant Secretary for Acquisition Andrew Hunter recently told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. \u201cIt is doing what flight test programs are designed to do, which is helping us learn about the unique characteristics of this platform, but in a very, very effective way.\u201d<\/h2>\n

Northrop Grumman, the defense contractor which manufactures the B-21, publicly\u00a0revealed<\/a>\u00a0the existence of the aircraft nearly two years ago. The plane is named the B-21 to denote that the new technology is the first American bomber of the twenty-first century.<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe B-21 Raider is a testament to America\u2019s enduring advantages in ingenuity and innovation,\u201d Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin previously said about the new aircraft in a statement. \u201cAnd it\u2019s proof of the Department\u2019s long-term commitment to building advanced capabilities that will fortify America\u2019s ability to deter aggression, today and into the future.\u201d<\/h2>\n

Air Force officials plan to acquire 100 of the aircraft, some of which will be able to fly without pilots. Hunter told lawmakers that the B-21 is the first aircraft which is \u201cmore digital than not.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Defense officials have increasingly prioritized developing\u00a0drones<\/a>\u00a0in recent years, as well as weapons\u00a0systems<\/a>\u00a0capable of guarding expensive assets from drone attacks.<\/h2>\n
