\u00a0Trying to get someone to come out because we have a tree leaning on a powerline.&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;This time there is no estimated time [until power is restored] they are giving either. \u00a0It&#8217;s frustrating because one can&#8217;t plan to leave or stay for the night!&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Anyone else experiencing cell phone service issues? \u00a0I have Verizon and my phone says SOS.&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Generator recommendations&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Any tips on opening the back electric gates without power? \u00a0My husband is needing to get to the office but we&#8217;re without power and doesn&#8217;t appear we can open it. \u00a0Figured someone might know a trick?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;For anyone who has power back, do you have Spectrum [internet service provider] back as well? \u00a0We got our electricity back this morning but still no wifi.&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Anyone know how to troubleshoot a portable generator&#8230;.First time we&#8217;ve used this generator. \u00a0Ideas?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Is there anything more annoying than the sound of the neighbor&#8217;s generator when you don&#8217;t have one?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;As we move into the 9th hour without power I&#8217;m growing increasingly concerned about the food in my fridge, especially the whole milk my 20 month old demands all day long.&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Are crews still working tonight or should I quit hoping my power is going to come on in the middle of the night?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;While it&#8217;s fresh on our minds, what things should we have on hand for storms\/power outages?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-2h c2-53 c2-54\">&#8220;Does anyone else not have water? \u00a0Power came back on at 12:45 AM but still no water.&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Here are my observations based on these posts.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-3a c2-53\">The reliance on &#8220;The Nebulous They&#8221; to fix things will not be overcome by the general population anytime soon.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Note how it&#8217;s up to other people to save them. \u00a0Yes, I like electricity, too. \u00a0But I also know the utility crews have difficult jobs &#8211; working long hours in adverse conditions &#8211; to restore power to your house so you can get your precious WiFi back. \u00a0It&#8217;s not a fast process. \u00a0Which is why I have methods to provide emergency power which\u00a0<a class=\"x-el x-el-a c2-29 c2-2a c2-56 c2-2c c2-2d c2-57 c2-j c2-58 c2-3 c2-2g c2-2h c2-2i c2-2j\" href=\"https:\/\/paultmartin.com\/blog\/f\/quick-start-assemble-a-turnkey-alt-energy-system-today\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">I recommend to you<\/a>.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-3a c2-53\">Just because you have gear doesn&#8217;t mean it works.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Owning a generator isn&#8217;t a solution by itself. \u00a0It must be tested and maintained regularly. \u00a0You need to know how it works &#8211; what can it do and not do? \u00a0Do you have fresh fuel for it? \u00a0Do you have sufficient extension cords and power strips? \u00a0I did\u00a0<a class=\"x-el x-el-a c2-29 c2-2a c2-56 c2-2c c2-2d c2-57 c2-j c2-58 c2-3 c2-2g c2-2h c2-2i c2-2j\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/c\/1948924288\/802\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a short video<\/a>\u00a0about this yesterday on my Telegram channel,\u00a0<a class=\"x-el x-el-a c2-29 c2-2a c2-56 c2-2c c2-2d c2-57 c2-j c2-58 c2-3 c2-2g c2-2h c2-2i c2-2j\" href=\"https:\/\/paultmartin.com\/blog\/f\/project-join-the-paul-t-martin-update-channel-on-telegram\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">which you can join for free<\/a>.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-3a c2-53\">And if you own a functional generator, your neighbors may hate you.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s imperative you have a plan to assist others with their problems in times of crisis. \u00a0Offering to put power into people&#8217;s phones and laptops is a critical service you can provide as the\u00a0<a class=\"x-el x-el-a c2-29 c2-2a c2-56 c2-2c c2-2d c2-57 c2-j c2-58 c2-3 c2-2g c2-2h c2-2i c2-2j\" href=\"https:\/\/paultmartin.com\/blog\/f\/project-so-youve-decided-to-become-a-warlord\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">neighborhood warlord<\/a>. \u00a0Or putting their food in your fridge or freezer until their power comes back on. \u00a0Noise discipline is a real thing if you don&#8217;t want to draw attention to yourself. \u00a0At a minimum, those with generators need to think through how they&#8217;d go about using it so as to minimize upset neighbors. \u00a0Part of that may be purchasing a few extension cords and offering to run one into their home for their critical loads for a few hours. \u00a0They are less likely to complain if they are benefitting from the noise.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-3a c2-53\">For those caring for people with unique needs, a utility outage compounds the challenge.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Mothers of infants need to protect the babies&#8217; food, which can include breast milk. \u00a0People who need refrigerated medications need power to keep those medications effective. \u00a0Losing power for a few hours can have life-altering effects on these individuals.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-29 c2-2a c2-3 c2-52 c2-2k c2-3a c2-53\">Bear in mind Dallas is a wealthy, vibrant city with lots of resources.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0And yet many are struggling to manage this situation, even though most of the city still has power and functions normally. \u00a0But what if it were the entire county?
