Their plan was to take back the town of Bex\u00e1r and end the Texas Revolution once and for all.<\/h2>\n<h2>Santa Anna\u2019s Army began to arrive in San Antonio de Bex\u00e1r on February 23, 1836. \u00a0Their arrival prompted members of the Texan Army to enter the Alamo, which was by now heavily fortified.<\/h2>\n<h2>The Alamo had 18 serviceable cannons and approximately 150 men at the start of the siege. \u00a0As the Mexican Army arrived, a parlay was called by one of the two Alamo Commanders, James Bowie, a famous adventurer and knife fighter. \u00a0Green B. Jameson, chief engineer of the garrison met with Mexican officials. Santa Anna\u2019s terms were surrender at discretion, meaning he would decide their fate. \u00a0The other Alamo Commander, 26-year-old\u00a0William B. Travis answered with a cannon shot from the 18-pounder cannon. \u00a0The Siege of the Alamo had begun. Santa Anna ordered a red flag to be flown from San Fernando Church showing that no quarter would be given.<\/h2>\n<h2>On February 24, 1836, with the garrison surrounded and the Texan Army at the Alamo outnumbered, one of the most famous letters in American history was written by William B. Travis. \u00a0It was addressed, \u201cTo the People of Texas and All Americans in the World.\u201d \u00a0This letter was a passionate plea for aid for the Alamo garrison. \u00a0He ended the letter \u201cVictory or Death\u201d \u2013 the only outcome this battle could have. \u00a0That letter left the Alamo and the siege continued.<br \/>\nOn March 1, 1836, 32 men from the town of Gonzales arrived to aid the Alamo. This brought the number of defenders up to almost 200 men.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong><em>On March 2, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico.<\/em> <\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>On March 3, 1836, courier James Butler Bonham arrived at the Alamo with word from Robert Williamson informing Travis help was on the way. \u00a0Unfortunately it would not arrive in time.<\/h2>\n<h2>On March 5, 1836, Santa Anna held a council of war, setting forth this plan for a four pronged attack of the garrison.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ce-1693\" class=\"text-image text-image--top ce ce--space-before-default ce--space-after-default \">\n<div class=\"ce__max-width\">\n<h2 class=\"headline headline--alamocontentelements_textimage \"><strong>Battle of the Alamo<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div class=\"text-image__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"text-image__text-wrap\">\n<div class=\"body-text\">\n<h2>At dawn on March 6, 1836, the 13th day of the siege, the Battle of the Alamo commenced. Fighting lasted roughly\u00a090 minutes, and by daybreak all the Defenders had perished, including a former congressman from Tennessee, David Crockett. The loss of the garrison was felt all over Texas, and even the world.<\/h2>\n<h2>The Defenders were from many different countries, including some Defenders who were native-born Mexicans.
