Bill Milner, who told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.12newsnow.com\/article\/news\/local\/discovery-shipwreck-neches-river\/502-5754f63e-6d22-4600-87e0-483a52ab8981?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook_12NewsNow&amp;fbclid=IwAR1hVUzDVbHvSZoxxeQjX3iv8Je_jGqW2ZTH0dFK0XPO-oRiYBQ6mz4nNXo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local news<\/a>\u00a0he grew up on the Neches River, photographed the discovery of the shipwrecks Aug. 18 and immediately brought them to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icehousemuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ice House Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Silsbee, Texas.<\/h2>\n<div id=\"paywall\" class=\"content-wrapper\">\n<h2>Kilcrease, the museum&#8217;s curator, said interest in the shipwrecks exploded online after the museum posted the images on social media.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/shipwreck-world-war-i-revealed-neches-river-texas-hot-dry-weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News outlets from across the country<\/a>\u00a0reported the discovery, and although they are working with the Texas Historical Commission to continue researching the shipwrecks, Kilcrease said she was worried the exact location of the shipwrecks would get out.<\/h2>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/trending\/article\/neches-river-shipwrecks-18333848.php?utm_source=Texas+Tribune+Newsletters&amp;utm_campaign=96397372ba-trib-newsletters-thebrief&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-96397372ba-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D&amp;mc_cid=96397372ba\">RTWT.<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Texas drought caused some World War I-era shipwrecks to resurface on a river near Beaumont &nbsp; Susan Kilcrease was worried a piece of U.S. history would be altered or damaged after it surfaced on the Neches River last week.
