{"id":49967,"date":"2022-01-03T10:00:08","date_gmt":"2022-01-03T16:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.wordpress.com\/?p=49967"},"modified":"2023-08-10T05:21:43","modified_gmt":"2023-08-10T10:21:43","slug":"best-western-movie-of-2021-old-henry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2022\/01\/03\/best-western-movie-of-2021-old-henry\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Western of 2021: Old Henry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-68105 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Old-Henry-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Old-Henry-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Old-Henry-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Old-Henry-300x450.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Old-Henry.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Real Westerns are a dime a dozen these days.<\/h3>\n<h3>About every five years one comes along that is worth watching from a writer not influenced by the current woke agenda that seeks to inject a version of fantasy instead of history, you know the kind I am talking about: where any color other than white makes up the majority of the cast and lesbian gunslingers save the day?<\/h3>\n<h3>I can count on one hand the best western movies of the last decade:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>True Grit (2010)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>The Homesman (2014)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>The Revenant (2015)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Hostiles (2017)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Old Henry (2021)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Old Henry stars one of my favorite actors, Tim Blake Nelson, whose body of work includes such films as O&#8217; Brother Where Art Thou?, The Homesman and Child of God just to name a few.<\/h3>\n<h3>Old Henry is superbly written, with some down home wisdom that will make you smile:<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><em>Son: &#8220;I still don&#8217;t believe this is what you wanted; up at dawn, feeding the stock, working the crops, hot or cold, rain or shine.&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em>Old Henry: &#8220;You&#8217;ll discover there&#8217;s worse arrangements.&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>I also really enjoyed how the movie dived head first into the duality of the gunfighter mythos and historical reality.<\/h3>\n<h3>I remember watching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0070518\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0\">Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973)<\/a> when I was a youngster (which I still consider one of Sam Peckinpah&#8217;s finest works next to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0065214\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0\">The Wild Bunch (1969)\u00a0<\/a>and I immediately got hooked on the story and mythos surrounding Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War.<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hell-Fast-Horse-Untold-Garrett\/dp\/0061368296\">To Hell on a Fast Horse<\/a> is one of the best books I have ever read on the subject of Billy the Kid, aka William Bonney, aka Henry Atrim, aka Henry McCarty.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68102 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Cowboy-art-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"748\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Cowboy-art-1.jpg 576w, https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Cowboy-art-1-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Cowboy-art-1-300x390.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Real Westerns are a dime a dozen these days.
