{"id":44464,"date":"2021-07-29T07:43:24","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.wordpress.com\/?p=44464"},"modified":"2021-07-29T07:43:24","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:43:24","slug":"easy-survival-granola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2021\/07\/29\/easy-survival-granola\/","title":{"rendered":"Easy Survival Granola"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>H\/T <a href=\"https:\/\/cookieandkate.com\/healthy-granola-recipe\/\">Cookie and Kate<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44468\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/07\/survival.jpg?w=620\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"929\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>With grocery prices rising through the roof, this is a great recipe for a cheap, filling and nutritious snack you can make in bulk.<\/h2>\n<h2>As for the extras, the possibilities are endless on what you can add.<\/h2>\n<h3>My base recipe always includes peanuts, craisins and coconut but if you want to make a batch for the kiddos you can add chocolate, butterscotch or peanut butter chips or M&amp;M&#8217;s to sweeten it up.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>INGREDIENTS<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>4 cups\u00a0old-fashioned rolled oats (use certified gluten-free oats for gluten-free granola)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 \u00bd cup\u00a0raw nuts and\/or seeds (I used\u00a01 cup\u00a0pecans and\u00a0\u00bd cup\u00a0pepitas)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 teaspoon\u00a0fine-grain sea salt (if you\u2019re using standard table salt, scale back to\u00a0\u00be teaspoon)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>\u00bd teaspoon\u00a0ground cinnamon<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>\u00bd cup\u00a0melted coconut oil or olive oil<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>\u00bd cup\u00a0maple syrup or honey<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 teaspoon\u00a0vanilla extract<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>\u2154 cup\u00a0dried fruit, chopped if large (I used dried cranberries)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Totally optional additional mix-ins: \u00bd cup chocolate chips or coconut flakes*<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>INSTRUCTIONS<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-1\">\n<h3>Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-2\">\n<h3>In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, nuts and\/or seeds, salt and cinnamon. Stir to blend.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-3\">\n<h3>Pour in the oil, maple syrup and\/or honey and vanilla. Mix well, until every oat and nut is lightly coated. Pour the granola onto your prepared pan and use a large spoon to spread it in an even layer.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-4\">\n<h3>Bake until lightly golden, about 21 to 24 minutes, stirring halfway (for extra-clumpy granola, press the stirred granola down with your spatula to create a more even layer). The granola will further crisp up as it cools.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-5\">\n<h3>Let the granola cool completely, undisturbed (at least 45 minutes). Top with the dried fruit (and optional chocolate chips, if using). Break the granola into pieces with your hands if you want to retain big chunks, or stir it around with a spoon if you don\u2019t want extra-clumpy granola.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-6\">\n<h3>Store the granola in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 to 2 weeks, or in a sealed freezer bag in the freezer for up to 3 months.
