{"id":17692,"date":"2016-07-18T15:19:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T20:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcstx.org\/?p=17692"},"modified":"2016-07-18T15:19:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T20:19:00","slug":"armed-citizens-corner-recognizing-an-opportunity-for-action-when-the-killers-gun-jams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2016\/07\/18\/armed-citizens-corner-recognizing-an-opportunity-for-action-when-the-killers-gun-jams\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed Citizens Corner: Recognizing an Opportunity For Action When The Killer&#8217;s Gun Jams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17693\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/07\/jamm.png\" alt=\"jamm\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><em>By Greg Ellifritz<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<p>I\u2019ve written quite a bit about malfunctioning guns over the years. \u00a0 I published <a title=\"Criminals and the Guns They Carry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.activeresponsetraining.net\/criminals-and-the-guns-they-carry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Criminals and the Guns They Carry<\/em>.<\/a>\u00a0 That article was a study of all the unloaded broken and malfunctioning guns police take from criminals. \u00a0 A couple weeks later I wrote <a title=\"Weapon Malfunctions in an Active Shooter Event\" href=\"http:\/\/www.activeresponsetraining.net\/weapon-malfunctions-in-an-active-shooter-event\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Weapon Malfunctions in the Active Shooter Environment<\/em><\/a> about how commonly killers\u2019 guns jam when they are engaged in a shooting spree.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I\u2019m not quite done done with gun jams for awhile.<\/p>\n<p>I saw a Facebook post from friend and fellow instructor Chris Fry at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdtstraining.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modern Defensive Training Systems<\/a>.\u00a0 Chris posted a video of a unique shooting that happened in Brazil.\u00a0 Surveillance footage showed an attack on a street.\u00a0 The attacker walked within three feet of his intended victim and fired a shot, which missed.\u00a0 The shooter\u2019s gun jammed and the victim just stood casually without moving as the shooter cleared the malfunction and fired another shot.\u00a0 His gun jammed again, but since he had hit his intended target with the second round, he didn\u2019t bother to clear the jam before walking away.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the short video at the link below.\u00a0 You will see a man getting shot and falling to the ground.\u00a0 You won\u2019t see blood and gore.\u00a0 The website also hosts videos of a violent or adult nature, so please don\u2019t go there if such behavior is prohibited by your employer.\u00a0 You\u2019ve been warned.\u00a0 Now, go check out the link\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveleak.com\/view?i=6d4_1284178735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brazilian Bad Guy Gun Jam<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Guy Gets Shot Point Blank But Gun Jams_ Victim Waits While He Reloads\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pZv3E6esoSw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What would cause a person to completely freeze up and do nothing while within contact distance of an armed attacker?\u00a0 The shooter took approximately five seconds to clear the jam and fire the second shot.\u00a0 The victim could have done anything, but he chose not to.\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n<p>I believe the victim froze because his sensory system was so overwhelmed with data that he couldn\u2019t process it all.\u00a0 He had never imagined such a thing happening to him, so he had no plan to deal with the event.\u00a0 Without a plan of action, the victim was locked into the circle of observing his opponent\u2019s actions, trying to figure out the significance of those action and coming up with an appropriate plan (for those of you familiar with the OODA loop espoused by Col.
