But the United States might not be the only country waging a covert war with TOW (or TOW-like) missiles in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p id=\"8e70\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">Iranian reverse-engineered TOW anti-tank guided missiles, dubbed \u201cToophan,\u201d have been been sighted headed toward Yemen with additional suspected appearances in Iraq and Syria\u200a\u2014\u200aall in the hands of Tehran\u2019s allies and proxy groups.<\/p>\n<p id=\"55ac\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--figure\">Iran\u2019s production of reverse-engineered TOW missiles is no great secret. In official news <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/edition.presstv.ir\/detail\/118011.html\">outlets<\/a>, <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MMTwnYd8oRU\">documentaries<\/a> and on Iran\u2019s official arms <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150922024145\/http:\/\/www.mindexcenter.ir\/products-category\/rocket-and-missile\">export website<\/a>, the Islamic Republic has touted its production of a series of different Toophan missiles derived from TOW variants.<\/p>\n<p id=\"72ae\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">It has produced at least a handful of different Toophan models, including the Toophan 1 through 3. According to Armament Research Services, the three systems <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/armamentresearch.com\/iran-unveils-toophan-3-anti-tank-guided-weapon-at-baghdad-arms-expo\/\">appear to copy<\/a> the TOW BGM-71A, BGM-71C and BGM-71F missiles. Iran makes two other variants, dubbed the Toophan-5 and Qaem.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2f02\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">In addition to the basic infantry launch platform, Iran has equipped some of its vehicles to fire the missiles.
