Among those is a platform ominously named the Terminator-3, which is a tank support fighting vehicle.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0ad3\" class=\"graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote graf-after--p\">\u201cRussia also plans to develop its tank support fighting vehicle dubbed the Terminator-3 on the basis of the country\u2019s latest Armata tanks,\u201d Oleg Sienko, a senior manager with Uralvagonzavod Corporation told<a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/sputniknews.com\/russia\/20160418\/1038203571\/russia-armata-robot.html\"> state-owned RIA Novosti<\/a> earlier this year. \u201cWe will [produce them]. We have a concept for developing vehicles on the basis of the Armata platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"6b44\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--figure\">However, Sienko did not provide any additional details about the new combat vehicle other than the fact it would be based on the Armata chassis. Previous iterations of the Terminator\u200a\u2014\u200aor more formally the <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Boyevaya Mashina Podderzhki Tankov<\/em>\u200a\u2014\u200aseries were based on the T-72 main battle tank chassis.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bc83\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">There is no direct analogue to a \u201ctank support fighting vehicle\u201d in the U.S. Army. Perhaps the nearest equivalent is the M3 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (CFV) variant of the long-serving Bradley\u200a\u2014\u200abut it\u2019s a poor comparison at best.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1f91\" class=\"graf--p graf-after--p\">A potentially closer comparison might be the<a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.army-technology.com\/projects\/namerheavyarmouredin\/\"> Israeli Namer<\/a>\u200a\u2014\u200awhich is based on a Merkava 4 tank chassis\u200a\u2014\u200abut the Russian machines are not designed to carry troops.
