Seek out the truth Folks, Don&#8217;t Believe the Status Quo. -SF<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15651\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/05\/roots.jpg\" alt=\"Roots\" width=\"380\" height=\"201\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Critics would say it\u2019s fitting: a misrepresented miniseries remake partially inspired by a Machiavellian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewamerican.com\/usnews\/crime\/item\/21837-president-s-lies-matter-obama-defends-black-lives-matter-movement\">movement.<\/a>The latter is Black Lives Matter, which caught fire (aside from setting fires) despite police shootings of black suspects being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewamerican.com\/usnews\/crime\/item\/19855-racial-bias-police-more-willing-to-shoot-whites-study-shows\">down 75 percent<\/a> over the last few decades and the fact that whites are more likely to be shot by police. The remake is <em>Roots<\/em>, an African slave story that lives on four decades after the original despite having been proven to be, as journalist Stanley Crouch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishworldreview.com\/cols\/crouch011802.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">put it<\/a>, \u201cone of the biggest con jobs in U.S. literary history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was 11 when the original<em> Roots<\/em> aired in 1977, and it was quite the event. Based on a 1976 Alex Haley book by the same name, it\u2019s still the most watched miniseries of all time; fully half of all U.S. homes \u2014 approximately 100 million people \u2014 viewed its final episode. As for cultural impact, the\u00a0<em>Hollywood Reporter<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/features\/roots-reborn-how-a-slave-897055\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tells us<\/a>, \u201cHundreds of colleges planned courses on<em>\u00a0Roots<\/em>, and more than two dozen U.S. cities held \u2018<em>Roots<\/em>\u00a0weeks,\u2019 according to the Museum of Broadcast Communications.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"custom\">\u00a0So given that even films such as <em>Children of the Corn<\/em> get remade, it\u2019s not surprising that someone would want to remake a commercially successful miniseries. In <em>Roots\u2019<\/em> case there are many someones, with the four-part, eight-hour project debuting \u201con Memorial Day (May 30), airing simultaneously on History, Lifetime and A&amp;E,\u201d the<em> Reporter<\/em> informs. Notably, a co-executive producer is actor LeVar Burton, who played the starring role in the original as Kunta Kinte, a Mandinka warrior kidnapped from West Africa and sold into slavery in the United States.<\/div>\n<p>Now, part of <em>Roots\u2019<\/em> appeal was that it\u2019s supposedly the true story of author Alex Haley\u2019s ancestors \u2014 it traced his \u201croots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>But the real root of the story is a lie.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Read the Remainder at the<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewamerican.com\/culture\/item\/23273-slavery-lies-matter-mini-series-roots-remade-for-blm-era\"> New American<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This is a great example of how Civil War and Southern Slavery History has been manipulated more than other period of American History.
