Harris<\/a> |\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanintelligencereport.com\/\">American Intelligence Report<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police departments\u00a0around the nation have taken predictive crime prevention to a new level by building fake user accounts, as well as posing as genuine people to gather information about local events,\u00a0Tech.Mic <a href=\"http:\/\/mic.com\/articles\/128299\/how-police-use-twitter-and-facebook-to-predict-crime#.GpX7XLRNO\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Local agents put on\u00a0a \u201cdigital mask\u201d and pose as \u201cmembers of the community,\u201d allowing them to gather personal information about suspects they consider a high risk of being\u00a0involved in a future crime or have\u00a0existing charges.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/policeforum.org\/library\/technology\/SocialMediaandTacticalConsiderationsforLawEnforcement.pdf\">social media guide for law enforcement officials<\/a>\u00a0published by the\u00a0Justice Department, the document details, officers create fraudulent\u00a0profiles even though Facebook officially bans the practice.<\/p>\n<p>Departments are also beginning to use predictive analytical <a href=\"http:\/\/mic.com\/articles\/128299\/how-police-use-twitter-and-facebook-to-predict-crime#.GpX7XLRNO\">policing software<\/a>, allowing authorities\u00a0to patrol local neighborhoods based on social networking posts. If people are emotionally upset\u00a0and publish\u00a0it on social media networks, the software program\u00a0labels the neighborhood\u00a0high risk alerting\u00a0law enforcement to occupy\u00a0those area\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent\u00a0article\u00a0published by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/police-make-fake-facebook-profiles-to-arrest-people-2013-10\">Business Insider<\/a>\u00a0one police\u00a0officer answered a LexisNexis survey that he \u201cwas looking for a suspect related to drug charges for over a month. When I looked him up on Facebook and requested him as a friend from a <strong>fictitious profile,\u00a0<\/strong>he accepted,\u201d and \u201che kept \u2018checking in\u2019 everywhere he went, so I was able to track him down very easily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another respondent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/police-make-fake-facebook-profiles-to-arrest-people-2013-10\">wrote<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cSocial media is a valuable tool because you are able to see the activities of a target in his comfortable stage. Targets brag and post \u2026 information in reference to travel, hobbies, places visited, appointments, circle of friends, family members, relationships, actions, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Out of 1,221 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies that use social media today, more than 80% of the responding officials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/police-make-fake-facebook-profiles-to-arrest-people-2013-10\">said<\/a> social media was a powerful\u00a0tool for crime-fighting and that \u201ccreating personas or profiles on social media outlets for use in law enforcement activities is ethical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD\u00a0has even gone to the extreme to use photos of young attractive women on Facebook to spy on\u00a0gang members, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/09\/19\/nyregion\/frisking-tactic-yields-to-a-focus-on-youth-gangs.html?ref=todayspaper&amp;pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">New York Times reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>No one seems to know\u00a0if agencies\u00a0use these photos with or without the consent of the person photographed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shearsocialmedia.com\/\">Bradley Shear,<\/a> an attorney and expert\u00a0in social media and the law, is not quite sure how the justice system will handle challenges made to this style of policing.\u00a0However, noting that\u00a0\u201cpolice often pose as prostitutes or drug dealers to catch criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We also know the government hires agents to sway political opinion under its notorious<a href=\"http:\/\/therundownlive.com\/operation-mockingbird-are-you-chatting-with-a-cia-agent-online\/\">Operation Mocking Bird<\/a>Program.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How to identify a fake user account on Facebook<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Account was made recently 2014, 2015.<\/li>\n<li>Account has no history published for earlier years, but Facebook says they have been a member since 2009, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Most fake accounts have 1 image\u00a0or no\u00a0real profile photo of the person. Some may\u00a0only have a select few photos over a long span of time. A well seasoned\u00a0user would have more photos posted over a long period of time.\u00a0A\u00a0fake account\u00a0may\u00a0have 7-10 photos posted on the same day.<\/li>\n<li>User has very few friends in common and or friends in general.<\/li>\n<li>There is little to no interaction on their page\u00a0with friends, no comments, likes or responses over their long time line.<\/li>\n<li>Profile picture seems to good to be true, that hot model added you today! They even messaged you and are interested in you!<\/li>\n<li>When in doubt use reverse image search.
