According to the AP, the group beheaded 12 officers before taking control of the complex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA second security official said that the militants used the headless bodies of the officers they killed to block the roads leading to the security headquarters\u2014which they occupied for about three hours,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>The attack came less than a week after American airstrikes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/02\/20\/world\/middleeast\/us-airstrike-isis-libya.html\">hit an ISIS training camp<\/a> in the city, killing about 40 people, including two Serbian hostages. The renascent U.S. efforts in Libya speak to a growing concern shared by a number of countries about ISIS\u2019s increasing ability to flourish in the North African country.<\/p>\n<p>American intelligence officials estimate that the group\u2019s ranks in Libya <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/02\/22\/world\/africa\/us-scrambles-to-contain-growing-isis-threat-in-libya.html\">have grown to 6,500 fighters<\/a>, more than doubling since the fall. ISIS<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/isis-presence-in-libya_us_56b369e2e4b08069c7a6352f\"> first declared its intentions<\/a> to establish a presence in Libya in 2014 and has been launching attacks ever since.
