My only complaint is not allowing license holders to have weapons in dorms. Not allowing our kids to be armed 100% of the time while on campus makes them at risk. -SF<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12055\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/guns-on-campus.jpg\" alt=\"guns on campus\" width=\"211\" height=\"119\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\">AUSTIN, TX (KTRK) &#8211;The University of Texas now says they will allow concealed handgun license holders to carry their guns into the classroom.\u00a0This change was recommended by a study panel back in December.<\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline\">\n<p>Texas state law requires all public universities to allow licensed concealed handguns owners in the classroom by August 1, but does give some leeway to schools, allowing for gun-free zones.<\/p>\n<p>Concealed carry license holders must carry the gun at all times or keep it securely locked in their vehicle or in a dorm in a gun safe<\/p>\n<p>A letter was sent out by <a href=\"https:\/\/utexas.app.box.com\/mcraven-cc-transmittal-letter\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">UT President Gregory L. Fenves<\/a> about <a href=\"https:\/\/utexas.app.box.com\/campus-carry-report\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">campus carry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>More details on campus carry at the University of Texas at Austin<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Residence halls on campus will still be off-limits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Cannot have any part of the weapon visible on campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Cannot carry semiautomatic gun with round in the chamber<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Must carry gun in holster that covers trigger and trigger guard area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in area with any pre k through 12 activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns at polling places &#8211; UT has one such spot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in court &#8211; UT has one courtroom at the School of Law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns at UT sports facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in businesses that sells alcohol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in areas that have state of federal licenses that bar concealed license holders from carrying guns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in patient care areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in areas where certain hearings are held<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns in science labs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guns for volunteers who work with minors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the Original Article at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/abc13.com\/news\/ut-austin-to-allow-concealed-handguns-in-classrooms\/1204197\/\">ABC13<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am glad this finally passed.
