{"id":12004,"date":"2016-02-15T08:35:29","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T14:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcstx.org\/?p=12004"},"modified":"2016-02-15T08:35:29","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T14:35:29","slug":"world-war-i-history-post-from-the-edge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2016\/02\/15\/world-war-i-history-post-from-the-edge\/","title":{"rendered":"World War I History: Post from the Edge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"entry-title\" style=\"text-align:center;\">Social Media Project Brings WW1 to Life in Real-Time<\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-11996\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/ww11.jpg?w=620\" alt=\"WW1\" width=\"620\" height=\"485\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align:center;\"><em>\u201cFollowers will get see World War One through the eyes of a fictional infantryman named Walter Carter.\u201d<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE CONTINUING<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1914.org\/\">First World War centenary<\/a> is getting a decidedly 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century treatment, thanks to the creators of a new U.K.-based social media project.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ww1soldierstale.co.uk\/\">WW1 Soldier\u2019s Tale<\/a><\/em> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WW1SoldiersTale\">Facebook page<\/a> that tracks the story of a fictional\u00a0British Tommy serving in the trenches of Flanders.<\/p>\n<p>Followers of the page will get see World War One through the eyes of Walter Carter, an infantryman with\u00a0the 1\/23rd (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment, as he posts updates from the Western Front.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by actual soldiers\u2019 wartime\u00a0experiences, Carter fills his\u00a0news-feed with thoughts and feelings about life and death on the front lines.\u00a0Friends and family back home weigh in as well, commenting on his posts while\u00a0offering their own perspectives on rationing, Zeppelin raids, conscription and the many other ways the war touched the lives of ordinary Britons.<\/p>\n<p>New posts, which coincide with events that happened 100 years ago to the day, appear regularly. Archival photos, wartime posters and actual news headlines from the era are sprinkled throughout adding a feel of authenticity to the project.<\/p>\n<p>Produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnal.co.uk\/\">David Noble Associates Ltd.<\/a>, an Oxfordshire marketing agency, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glrfca.org\/\">the Greater London Reserve Forces\u2019 and Cadets\u2019 Association<\/a>,<em>WW1 Soldier\u2019s Tale<\/em> aims to make the history of the war more accessible to today\u2019s generation of digital natives.
