I take it as the Ultimate sign of Disrespect toward men who gave the ultimate Sacrifice. -SF<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-11384\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/ww1.jpg?w=620\" alt=\"ww1\" width=\"620\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p>World War I is one of the most pivotal events in U.S.\u00a0\u00a0history, leaving hundreds of thousands of American soldiers dead in a bloody fight to preserve freedom and democracy.<\/p>\n<p>Today, tourists who descend on the nation\u2019s capital\u2014littered with statues and monuments of remembrance\u2014find not a single national memorial dedicated to\u00a0Americans\u00a0who served during the Great War.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo war in our history needs more visibility or more awareness than World War I because it\u2019s actually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/world-war-i\">one that many people don\u2019t know much about<\/a>,\u201d Libby O\u2019Connell, chief historian for The History Channel, told The Daily Signal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really marked the beginning of the American century\u2014there were changes in technology, aviation, and the whole spirit of the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than two years after Congress <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News-Article-View\/Article\/612680\">tasked<\/a>\u00a0the World War I Centennial Commission to establish a national commemoration site for World War I, the jury on Tuesday unveiled the design of the new memorial.<\/p>\n<p>The congressional commission unanimously chose a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwar1centennial.org\/stage-ii-design-development\/the-weight-of-sacrifice.html\">design<\/a>\u00a0called \u201cThe Weight of Sacrifice,\u201d\u00a0submitted by 25-year-old architect Joe Weishaar of Chicago and veteran sculptor Sabin Howard, 52, of New York, after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwar1centennial.org\/index.php\/competition-overview.html\">spending<\/a> roughly eight months sifting through 350 entries.
