The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has worked for years to compel the West to criminalize criticism of Islam \u2014 a Sharia provision \u2014 under the guise of ensuring \u201crespect\u201d for \u201call religious traditions.\u201d This initiative will probably succeed soon. The Pope agrees, as he made clear after the Charlie Hebdo jihad massacre. The President agrees, as he made clear when he said, \u201cThe future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.\u201d Most everyone takes for granted at this point that if you do something that Muslims don\u2019t like and some Muslims try to kill you, it\u2019s your fault, and you should change your behavior or bear the consequences of not doing so. No one thinks anymore that anyone should challenge Muslims to accept the freedom of expression. That idea is gone with the wind, as will be free societies before too long.<\/p>\n

Iran President Hassan Rouhani says that insulting people\u2019s faith is not part of freedom expression.<\/p>\n

Rouhani made the comment while speaking to reporters after an audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican.<\/p>\n

Rouhani said he agreed with the pope\u2019s observation that insulting a religion could produce a violent reaction, like the Paris attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that he and the pope discussed freedom of expression during their Tuesday visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll religions are to be respected, their books and the millions of people who follow the faith,\u201d Rouhani said, adding that insulting them \u201ccreates division and doesn\u2019t help anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rouhani\u2019s comments, however, aren\u2019t consistent with Iran\u2019s practices.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Open Doors, a Christian non-profit that tracks persecution, listed Iran in its top 10 countries for practicing extreme persecution of Christians in 2015\u2026.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Actually, Rouhani said \u201call religions,\u201d but he meant only Islam.<\/p>\n
