{"id":10835,"date":"2016-01-19T11:12:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T17:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcstx.org\/?p=10835"},"modified":"2016-01-19T11:12:52","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T17:12:52","slug":"heads-up-legionnaires-disease-kills-10-in-flint-michigan-since-water-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2016\/01\/19\/heads-up-legionnaires-disease-kills-10-in-flint-michigan-since-water-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Heads Up:  Legionnaires Disease Kills 10 in Flint, Michigan Since Water Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Something you may have not heard about since all this kicked off in Flint..All the Media has been talking about is Lead Poisoning, Legionaires Disease is something totally different and certainly more dangerous. -SF<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10836\" src=\"https:\/\/hcsblogdotorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/01\/legionnaires-bacteria-300x239.jpg\" alt=\"Legionnaires-Bacteria-300x239\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ten people have died and 77 others have been sickened by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mdhhs\/0,5885,7-339--373401--,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legionnaires Disease<\/a> in Flint, Michigan and the the surrounding area since June 2014, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced this week. \u00a0The spike in illnesses began two months after the city of Flint changed its water supply to the Flint River in a money-saving move, but health department officials say its too early to tell if the two are related.\u00a0One reason health officials say they cannot be directly link the cases to the water change in Flint is the they don\u2019t have isolates from case patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Legionellosis cases are not uncommon, we are concerned about the increase in cases seen in Genesee County,\u201d said Eden Wells, M.D., chief medical executive with the MDHHS. \u201cWe are releasing this report and continuing surveillance and investigations to ensure that appropriate actions are being taken to protect the health of the residents of Flint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From June 2014 to March 2015, there were 45 confirmed cases of Legionnaires Disease, seven of them resulted in fatalities. From May 2015 through November 2015, 42 cases were reported, of those, three were fatalities. Those sickened ranged in age from\u00a026\u201394.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pritzkerlaw.com\/legionnaires-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legionnaires\u2019 Disease,<\/a><\/strong> which does not spread from person-to person, causes pneumonia-like symptoms including\u00a0fever, cough, fatigue, confusion, aches and lung inflammation.
