{"id":10264,"date":"2015-12-28T15:00:06","date_gmt":"2015-12-28T21:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcstx.org\/?p=10264"},"modified":"2015-12-28T15:00:06","modified_gmt":"2015-12-28T21:00:06","slug":"dallas-swats-deadly-coalition-to-stop-gun-violence-advice-on-open-carry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetacticalhermit.com\/index.php\/2015\/12\/28\/dallas-swats-deadly-coalition-to-stop-gun-violence-advice-on-open-carry\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas &#8220;Swats&#8221; Deadly Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Advice on Open Carry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><em><strong>With Open Carry about to be the Law of the Land in Texas come January 1st, it would behoove ALL TEXANS, regardless if you carry a firearm or not, to brush up on the concealed\/open carry laws; remember, IGNORANCE of the law is never an alibi. -SF<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"City of Dallas | Open Carry\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BDLC3d_06NE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The City of Dallas has released a video and a <em>\u201cFrequently Asked Questions<\/em>\u201d guide to advise the public about changes to Texas open carry laws that will go in effect on January 1, <a href=\"http:\/\/cityhallblog.dallasnews.com\/2015\/12\/ahead-of-open-carry-dallas-officials-urge-residents-to-keep-calm-if-they-see-handguns-next-year.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Dallas Morning News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Citizens with concealed carry permits will be allowed to openly carry handguns in non-prohibited areas.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Realizing that the\u00a0change will take some people time to get used to, the city is seeking to calm and educate the public, and to ensure its police officers know\u00a0how to respond to calls about\u00a0armed citizens. True, Texas law still requires a permit and it still provides for <em>\u201cgun free zones,\u201d<\/em> but this shows the citizen disarmament lobby isn\u2019t the only side that can advance goals through incremental gains.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing\u00a0that there are some\u00a0so angered by this setback to their agenda that they\u2019re willing to put lives (<em>of others<\/em>) at risk to throw a wrench into things, the city felt it necessary to add a question and answer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/293462271\/Dallas-Open-Carry-FAQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its FAQ<\/a>. The following\u00a0specifically addresses danger caused by those who would rather see people dead than armed through the evil practice of \u201cswatting\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Does DPD have a strategy to detect fake 911 calls? For example, there is a group that has told its members to call 911 and report that persons openly carrying are committing a crime to get a police response.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>911 will be trained to handle these types of calls.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What group might they be referring to? One that\u2019s been pointed out numerous times over the past several months is the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, which last July posted the following \u201cadvice\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CoalitiontoStopGunViolence\/posts\/1131326450228252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its Facebook page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_251495\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-251495\" title=\"Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, calls for swatting of innocent gun owners.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ScreenHunter_01-Dec.-20-15.34-450x144.jpg?5379f4\" alt=\"Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, calls for swatting of innocent gun owners.\" width=\"600\" height=\"192\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, calls for swatting of innocent gun owners.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After doubling down on their stance <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2015\/09\/01\/gun-control-groups-accused-swatting-open-carry-permit-holders-putting-lives-at.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in September<\/a>, CSGV repeated the invitation to disaster\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CoalitiontoStopGunViolence\/posts\/1214311135263116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What does Dallas have to say on the matter in its FAQ?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Before calling, take time to observe what the person is doing. Ask yourself whether the person is doing anything that looks suspicious. Just because the person is openly carrying a handgun does not mean he has no right to do so. If you call 911 to verify whether a person is lawfully openly carrying a handgun, officers will come based on 911 training and information provided on the call.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The dangers of the CSGV approach should be clear. Both citizens and police are unnecessarily placed at heightened risk by hysterical and\/or malicious 911 calls.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>As even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/29\/magazine\/the-serial-swatter.html?smid=tw-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> \u2014 no friend to gun owners \u2014 has reported, \u201c<em>Internet trolls have learned to exploit our over-militarized police. It\u2019s a crime that\u2019s hard to stop \u2014 and hard to prosecute.\u201d<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis should be done in a thoughtful manner. And no false reporting,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CoalitiontoStopGunViolence\/posts\/1131326450228252?comment_id=1131340180226879&amp;reply_comment_id=1131445980216299&amp;comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CSGV backpedaled<\/a> when reminded of <a href=\"http:\/\/bearingarms.com\/ex-marine-swatted-black-shopper-death-walmart-changes-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a fatal apparent swatting of a black shopper<\/a> who was holding a pellet gun on sale at Walmart. But the afterthought attempt at plausible deniability rings hollow.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s insane that the people of Akron, Ohio should have to tolerate this dangerous degenerate in their community,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CoalitiontoStopGunViolence\/posts\/1213566755337554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CSGV railed<\/a>, making no attempt to mask its seething hatred for an open carrier who had broken no laws, and who was even willing to sit down and explain his thoughts on firearms and freedom to an anti-gun bigot who had screamed profanities at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNRA laws are allowing potential mass shooters to confront our families without any fear of being disarmed prior to opening fire.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, they\u2019re furious that there are legal restraints to discourage police from drawing down on a citizen simply for having a gun, because of what someone <em>could<\/em> do.\u00a0Using their rationale, this shows it doesn\u2019t matter if that gun is openly carried or concealed. The more properly-named Coalition to<em> Initiate<\/em> Gun Violence doesn\u2019t want you to be allowed to do either. \u00a0The bottom line is, if you carry a gun, they consider you a threat justifying an armed police response, and all the lethal dangers that entails.<\/p>\n<p>Using that rationale, everyone with hands is a potential strangler and everyone with matches a potential arsonist. And guess what that makes every male\u2026?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BDLC3d_06NE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The video<\/a> prepared by the City of Dallas elaborates on the new Texas open carry law.
