Practical Martialist Christianity #1: Not Being Like The World (In A Pro-Active Sense)

If it is one thing I have discovered since I became a Christian it is this: Jesus is not only interested in our SPIRITUAL well-being, he is also interested in our Christian walk being PRACTICAL, or in other words, guiding us in our daily walk so that we are not so “Spiritually minded we are no EARTHLY Good!”

We are instructed both By Jesus himself and the apostle Paul to live in this world but not be a part of it.

Some scriptures to support this are:

1 John 2:15-17 – Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.   (Read More…)

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1 John 2:15 – Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 – For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

We are also told quite plainly that the World and the unbelievers that populate it are going to be hostile toward Christians:

1 John 3:13 – Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

Without a doubt I believe God is concerned with his children’s safety therefore and he gives his children insight into this evil and dangerous world in which we have to live both through scripture, common sense and discernment.

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore WISE as serpents, and harmless as doves.” -Matthew 10:16

So knowing all of this, we can deduce that as believers, we should strive to NOT be like the world in ANY WAY, this includes not only in our Spiritual Walk obviously, but every other facet of our lives to include how we handle our day to day SAFETY AND PHYSICAL SECURITY.

Now follow me here.

The World as a whole pretty much goes about their daily lives in a total REACTIVE state.

In other words, the majority of folks (ie sheeple) wait for something BAD to happen before they react (or stampede) and/or make changes to lessen the chances of it happening again. For those of you that served in the military, you know this to be a FACT. We used to say All Military Regulations were written in BLOOD, or in other words, it took something TRAGIC to happen to somebody before there were any changes made to policy or procedure so that it would not happen again.

Now being the Lord does not want us to be like the World, it makes sense that he would want his children to be the opposite of the world in this respect and be PRO-ACTIVE in their approach to SAFETY AND  SELF-DEFENSE.

So of course this begs the question what are some ways I can be Pro-Active in my daily life that will help me be safer? For those of you that are veterans to the Martialist or Civilian Operator lifestyle, I am sure you are already putting some of these into practice. For you amateurs, here is a short list.

There is a ton of good stuff out there on the “Combat Mindset”, But how does the Christian balance always being ready to fight and loving our neighbor? Understand that although you are a Christian that does not mean you have to also be a gullible lemming! Understand the world you live in is a dangerous, hostile, nasty place and act accordingly. Refuse to be naive about human nature and behavior. This does mean you have to be an eternal pessimist, but it does mean you have to realistic about the world in which you live. Not to get too spiritual here, but this is where prayer and discernment of spirits comes into play for me. Yes, God speaks to me about situations and some people who may be up to no good. It is a biblical concept for believers to be “led by the holy spirit”. God wants to be involved in your life, so if you have a question or concern, ask him; just don’t forget to shut up and listen afterwards!!

I have a friend who tells me all the time it is a bad sign when you are living in a society where you constantly have to remind people to PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND THEM! Put down that cell phone, tablet, camera, GPS and start paying attention folks. Believe me when I tell you this one of the BEST ways you can be Pro-Active in keeping both you and your loved one safe.

It is not enough to just own a gun anymore. You need to have it on you at all times, and be trained to use it, because after all as a wise cowboy once said: “Better to have it and not need it than need it and NOT have it.” If you live in a State that issues Concealed Carry permits, get one. After that, enroll in some advanced concealed carry classes from a reputable trainer who knows his stuff. After you do that, start branching out into other training classes like long gun, empty-hand, knife, stick, small-unit tactics, etc.

One of my pet peeves is people who think just because they have that gun on them they can be 350lbs and eat bon-bon’s everyday. I have to remind them the key word in GUNFIGHT is not GUN but FIGHT! What good is it when you pull that gun and get in a clinch match and in 15 seconds you are so out of breath the perp disarms you and gives you a proctology examination with your own gun? Not a pretty picture huh? You don’t have to be Rambo, but you sure as hell cannot be Professor Klump and expect to survive a fight of any kind. If it is one thing I have discovered it is ANYBODY, regardless of physical condition, can get and stay in decent enough shape to defend themselves on the street if they put their mind to it. Always Maintain a COMBATIVE mindset: Stay FIGHT Focused, not WEAPON focused!

Stay Alert, Stay Armed and Stay Dangerous!
